Tamia in Cape Town Concert – Event Review

The super talented 6 times grammy nominated Tamia performed at tha Grandwest last week Saturday. I was certainly looking forward to this show as I have been a Tamia fan since she released her self-titled album in 1998. Tamia was the leading act for the Divas 2014 show produced by Marmalade Productions. This was definitely going to be a lovely sing along concert. The Grandwest filled up nicely. The setting was perfect with the sitting down Golden Circle creating a sense of intimacy in the show.

The event kicked off with Belinda Davids showing off her strong voice. She sang ‘I have nothing’ by the late Whitney Houston beautifully, its hard to sing any Whitney Houston but she certainly did justice to it. I just wish she sang more of her songs.

Before former Karen Kortje came on stage as the second opening act, her backup artist did a wonderful rendition of ‘All of Me’ by John Legend, I was blown away. Karin came on stage and performed fairly well, I honestly think the opening with All of Me was great. I also wished Karin performed more of her songs, this was an opportunity for her to share her music.

The third opening act Le Anne brought it, I love the fact that she made an effort, a professional performance with costumes and dancers. I don’t know much of her songs but I enjoyed seeing her onstage.

The suprise act Sylvia Mdunyelwa was everything. This legend certainly set the arena alight bringing an awesome vibe on stage and to the audience. The Jazz legend took us back with some old school jazz song, her energy on stage  rubbed off on the audience as everyone was standing and singing along. She was certainly one of the highlights of the night, definitely a Diva.

Tamia came on stage and just erupted the whole arena. Her  voice, the choreography, her body, her dress, everything was just perfect. She sang almost all my favourite songs except for ‘Loving you still’ and ‘If I were you’ , but I can live with that as I knew all the songs she performed. The response when she sang ‘Who do you tell’ was amazing, the audience just took over the song which led to Tamia shedding a tear, it was a very precious moment in the concert. ‘Still’ also received a good response with her mentioning how the song relates to her as she has been married for over 15years. Her performance of ‘Me’ was certainly my favourite and so was the performance of my all time favourite Tamia song ‘You Put A Move on my heart”.

The response from the audience was amazing, at one point it felt like I was at a  sports game with the singing along in appreciation of the talent that is Tamia. She was certainly engaging with the audience on a personal level even walking down the stage. She had to come back to perform one more song ‘Stranger in my house’ as the crowd asked for more.

This was certainly an amazing concert and the audience was certainly pleased. Brat left the concerts a new Tamia fan.  Lovely production, lovely people, lovely artist.Thank you Marmalade Productions 🙂

A Visit to The Springbok Experience Museum

Museum building

Brat outside

Since we were celebrating 20 years of freedom in South Africa  this month, the CTVibes team took time out to visit The Springbok Experience museum at the  V&A Waterfront. SA Rugby has  rich  history which can be found at this technologically advanced museum.

The idea one gets when visiting a museum is an image of a quiet areas with just statues or pictures of various historical moments.  Walking into the museum you walk through a tunnel that seems like the tunnel that is found at stadiums. Our super friendly Tour Guide, Hendrick Snyders, explained the tunnel is there to create a feel of  what takes place when Rugby players enter the stadium. There are also Rugby games at the reception players in which players can practise throwing, kicking and other exercises relevant to the Rugby game. The CTVibes team didn’t do so well on these, we need more practise 🙂 .

Tunnel Madiba and Francois     The maize design of the museum creates a mystery for a visitor as they keep guessing what more to expect around the corner while visiting the museum. The heritage of Rugby is clearly depicted at this museum, going back to the 18th century when Rugby was established from football.  There are various key pieces of the Rugby history such as the various cups, jerseys and badges used by different SA Rugby  teams over the years. It is also very interesting to find out more about the blacks role in the history of Rugby as it is not often stated.

The screens and projectors around the museum also provide in depth information about the history of Rugby in our country. Francois Pienaar’s number 6 jersey from the 1995 Rugby World Cup and John Smit’s Rugby World Cup final jersey are some of the things that can be found at the museum.   1st Currie Cup   The museum takes you from the Springbok Trial games, to the rich history of Rugby during the apartheid till the activities that took place after South Africans gained independence in 1994.  There is also a theatre where we watched an 8minutes presentation which covered all the years in Rugby showing how it has evolved to the popular sport that we excel in. This museum gives a fun lesson of Rugby in South Africa.  It is definitely worth visiting.

The museum is open everyday except for Christmas Day. The operating hours are 10am till 6pm.   Click HERE to find out more about the museum.   Thank you  SA Rugby for the invite 🙂

30 Seconds to Mars supported by Beatenberg – Press Release

BB

Big Concerts is proud to announce that Beatenberg will be supporting Thirty Seconds to Mars when they tour South Africa for 2 concerts on Friday 13th June at the Grand Arena, Cape Town and Monday 16th June at the Coca-Cola Dome, Johannesburg. Presented by M-Net.

BB2

Beatenberg are South Africa’s new face of pop, comprising Matthew Field (Vocals/Guitar), Ross Dorkin (Bass) and Robin Brink (Drums). Songwriter Matthew says their music is about ‘emotions, images and fleeting senses of things: the mad stuff that everyone feels and almost understands’. Combined with extensive gigging and touring throughout 2013 – including performances at all of South Africa’s top music festivals – the name Beatenberg fast became familiar when the country started asking ‘Who is Chelsea Blakemore?’ after the release of their debut single in late 2013.. The collobration between Beatenberg and DJ Clock ‘Pluto (Remember You) has grown to be the biggest smash hit of the summer reaching number one across the country and holding this position for over 7 weeks, including the top spots on  5FM, Highveld, KFM, YFM and Metro FM as well as charting in the top 3 iTunes singles.

Thirty Seconds to Mars have gone on to scale the heights of rock and roll stardom and are known for their energetic live performances and their fusion of different genres. Although they found modest success with their self-titled debut, it was their second album, ‘A Beautiful Lie,’ which announced them as bonafide rock and roll superstars. The band’s third album, ‘This is War,’ released in 2009 garnered them another three top ten singles, the first two of which peaked at the number 1 spot on the US Alternative Songs chart. Additionally, ‘Closer to the Edge’ was the fastest selling rock single in the UK and topped the UK rock chart for eight consecutive weeks. The subsequent tour set a ‘Guinness World Record for the longest concert tour by a rock band’ and helped to establish Thirty Seconds to Mars’ reputation as one of the hardest working rock bands.

Coming off the back of an outstanding European festival circuit and some scintillating performances, this is one band that you do not want to miss.
