He was born in Zimbabwe, moved to S.A in Rustenburg when he was 3 years and then moved to JHB after he finished his studies to pursue his dreams. He is an ex-corporate marketing personnel, and now he is a music producer and also an artist who is passionate about music and entertainment. I’m talking about the sexy, funny, and crazy Dylan King aka BLAYZE!!
This week he is in town with the lovely lady Farah Fortune, doing a bit of this and that. I managed to steal time out with them for some lunch at the exquisite V&A Waterfront. Here is my chat with Blayze:
Where does Blayze (the name) come from?
I used to do Graffiti when I was a kid and Blayze was my tag/signature in all my work. Then the name stuck with me.
Where did it all start?
When I grew up my dad was a very musical person. He owned a lot of Blues cassettes, so I listened to them with him. I was surrounded by music all the time.
Later on in life I started to listen to Hip Hop and other music genres. Music allowed me to create a space to express myself, which is what I wanted.
Tell me about Blayze Entertainment?
It is an independent company. At the moment it focuses on making music and also providing a one stop shop that sells a concept to artists. Blayze Entertainment consist of myself, Lil Trix, and Lukah.
What inspired you to make music?
I have passion for music, I love music and what it can do to your emotions. It can make you feel all kinds of emotions.
Biggest achievement to date?
It will have to be my 1st collaboration with Jozi Finest, I got to work with amazing artist such as Pro-kid, Tukza to name a few. That was my 1st project and no one knew me so it was my biggest achievement.
Last thing you do before you perform?
I say to myself “don’t forget your damn words”. Hahaha!
How do you deal with negativity?
I just ignore it, one of the things that I had to learn in this industry is to have a thick skin.
Inspiration behind Freeze and Pose?
Hahaha! There is none, I was in studio one day playing around with sound and it just came to me.
Releasing an album soon?
I’m not in a rush for an album, I think there is a lot of work I still have to do before I do an album.
What brings you to CPT?
When I first came to CPT it had a different crowd and feeling compared to JHB, so I came back to explore that more and also to do some PR to get my name out there.
Any CPT artists you would like to work with?
Jimmy Nevis, he is different and I’m looking at working with him in a remix that I’m doing of one of Jozi Finests’ tracks.
I would also like to work with Driemanskaap and anyone who is creatively diverse.
Your take on CPT entertainment industry?
It is different not as virtuous as JHB. It looks like the is more unity, people here are willing to help each other.
Any performances while you in CPT?
Yeah! Catch me this Thursday: Chilli Bar and Friday: I will start of at Black Pearl, then Sensation, and later Chez Ntemba…. There will be giveaways.
What can we expect before the end of the year?
I’m just pushing my new single Freeze and Pose, and also will be doing some production work.
Word to your supporters?
Thank you to everyone who is following me on twitter, downloading my music, and my friends on facebook.
Where can people find you?
They can find me on twitter: @BlayzeEnt, Facebook: Dylan Blayze King, and on my website: www.blayzeentertainment.com
Marry, Mack, and Flush? Kim Kardashian, Melinda Bam, and Farah Fortune?
Kim – Mack
Melinda – Mack then Flush
Farah – I’ll keep macking… Hahaha!
That’s all from me and Blayze, what was said after this is locked between me, Blayze, and Farah’s lips…. Hahaha!
